Florida derby

Race 5
7-6-5-1-10
Watch the board on the 10. 825K colt. Up against it with outside post into short turn . 7 just missed to Tampa Bay Derby winner. 6 made up 10 lengths in last to just miss. 1 made big move at 7F and should benefit from added distance . 5 goes turf to dirt for Mott.

Race 6
Enough speed that the 8 should have perfect trip but 6 was enormous last out. The 5 has potential to improve going longer and the 1 could save ground and move late .
8-6-1-5

Race 7
Nothing really clever to add here. 5 will be solid favorite. The Chad Brown horse should improve with blinkers
5-8-1-9-12

Race 8
1 and 9 will duel upfront. The 7 has finished behind both those two in his last two but was gaining late. Extra half furlong will help.
7-3-1-9
Race 9
This race is a guessing game .
5-11-4-7-1

Race 10
Work out on 6 may be a typo but if not watch out. Faced better and should be close enough adding Blinkers .
6-7-5-1-4

Race 11
Looking for a price and I think I found a live one with the 9

9 (Love this horse ) -2-3-4

Race 12
2 ran well in Travers so switch to dirt shouldn’t be a problem. 5 may have lead . Especially if the 10 isn’t right. Saez chose the 5 over the 4 that’s an angle I like to use .

2-5-4-10-11

Race 13
Mott has 3 entered here. Too good of a trainer to not win with one. If 7 runs at FG it could get puzzling.

7-10-1-4

Race 14
Cairo Prince and Constitution need the points the most to get into derby
I fear the 1 and 6 may have ran best race last time out .
4-3-2-6

A Special thanks to my good friend  @JoeT_OnTheSide for putting together this card  for me. My schedule has gotten completely out of hand so Joe is helping me with the site today.  He has  done all the handicapping and write ups and  if you follow him on twitter you surely know he is more than capable  of putting together winning tickets.. He is one of the best handicappers I know and a master at identifying value in a race.   Good luck and hit them hard everyone  and ill be back at it tomorrow .

1st Race

4- John’s Mariah

6- Mela Dramatically

1/1A – Broman Entry

5 – Flirtatious Spring

#4 John’s Mariah looks like the speed of the race, and can potentially take this field wire-to-wire, which is a scenario we’ve seen a few times this summer at Saratoga. #6 Mela Dramatically takes somewhat of a drop in this one. Expect to see her a bit closer to the pace with Edgar aboard, and with a pretty strong upset chance at good odds.

2nd Race

7 – Ring Weekend

5 – Request

8- Roman’s Paradise

1 – Prague

#7 Ring Weekend goes out for a J/T combo that has been known to have some live turf starters. This one has two very good works here at Saratoga. Watch the board early in this race, if he gets any sort of action, be confident that we have a live runner. #5 Request goes out for Chad Brown, with JJ aboard, which should be enough to respect him. Has worked well for his debut, working in company with other impressive Chad Brown FTS, Zloty. #1 Prague has been working very well for his debut and will offer up a very juicy price.

Race 3

4- Jackson n Lorimer

6 – Honor Code

1- Purple Sky

5- School Yard

In a race loaded with first time starters, we’re going to the #4 Jackson N Lorimer to upset the field at a nice price. There’s some strong enough turf breeding, but more importantly the works have been steady and solid. If we can get 8-1, it will be a price worth taking a big shot at.  #6 Honor Code offers up great pedigree, and successful connections in Shug/Johnny V. They should be dangerous and competitive in this one. It’s a wide open race on paper, and worth taking a shot with some value horses.

Race 4

10- Comes The Dream

9 – Unitarian

6- Alburj

8 – Lure of the South

#10 Comes the Dream comes right back for George Weaver. In a race that looks like it lacks some pace, I’d imagine Rajiv putting this one right off the flank of #6 Alburj and having the first run at the lead turning for home.

Race 5

4 – Commanding Curve

1 – No Dishonor

7 – Good Response

8 – Village Warrior

#4 Commanding Curve goes out for Dallas Stewart after a series of good works, especially the three here at Saratoga. #1 No Dishonor has the benefit of a race under his belt and goes turf to dirt. The inside post may be tough, but there’s no reason to believe that this one isn’t talented enough to compete with this group of FTS.

Race 6

1 – Accomplish First

2 – Baal Perazim

4 – Courageous Karen

5- Stock Fund

#1 Accomplish First goes out for Michael Dilger, who has burst onto the NY scene this summer. The former assistant to Todd Pletcher has found a home in the NYSB game here at Saratoga. This one is ready and will wire the field. Taking a stab with the #2 Baal Perazim in the second position. If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I bet Gabriel Goodwin horses from time to time. This one will be a great price in a field that’s pretty weak, despite moving back into MSW company.

Race 7

4 – Gombey Dancer

2 – Odea

5 – So Raise YourGlass

3 – Tenango

Seems like this one just sets up perfectly for #4 Gombey Dancer, who made a great run to finish 2nd in his last race to Slan Abhaile, who came back to finish a very respectable 6th in the King’s Bishop last week. This one is my BEST BET of the day. #2 Odea has been training like gang-busters, and will be the inside speed of the race. There’s the possibility that he folds in the stretch, but he’s run against some tough horses in the past, which may be the experience he needs for a good showing today.  #5 So Raise YourGlass comes in off a February layoff and should like the pace setup here. Works aren’t flashy, but steady enough to be respected in here at a good price.

Race 8

3 – Turallure

1 – Paris Vegas

7 – Silver Max

6 – Za Approval

#3 Turallure came back with a great effort last out just getting beat by the very successful Seal Cove. Some people will stay away because of the jockey change to “The Strangler” Julien Leparoux, but I think this one is ready for a BIG effort.  #1 Paris Vegas also comes out of the same race, and showed he’s in good form by firing a bullet work on 8/22. Both Silver Max and Za Approval are the class of the race, but I have concerns about both. Silver Max goes out for Dale Romans who has been a shell of what he was last year, and Za Approval comes back from a trip out west, which may have taken something out of him.  Despite this, you must respect the success they’ve had in the past.

Race 9

2 – Javerre

1/1A – Zayat Entry

7 – Strapping Groom

3 – Jackson Bend

I can’t think of a race this meet where there will be several horses that will have such strong fan support. in one corner, you’ll have the old warrior, Jackson Bend, returning to the scene of the accident from last year, where he was injured in a training incident and hasn’t been the same since. In another, you have Strapping Groom, belonging to the same connections as Saginaw who we sadly lost yesterday. Everyone is pulling for these connections to have some sort of rebound from what must have been a terrible day.  But, we’re here to gamble, and I’m taking a shot with #2 Javerre in this one. He’s pretty much done a little bit of everything this year, but gets back to sprinting which it seems like he really wants to do. Finished 2nd to Immortal Eyes last out, who is in the top form of his career. Dangerous, and at a big price.

Race 10

7 – Alpha

2 – Successful Dan

1 – Ron the Greek

4 – Flat Out

That’s right, I’m on the #7 Alpha in the Woodward. Why? Two reasons – 1. Kiaran McLaughlin is on fire. 2. He comes in 3rd off the layoff, and it seems as though this is the race they were pointing to. In my opinion, he gets a great trip right behind the speed. Turning for home, he’ll have the first run at the leaders, and then from there we’ll see what kind of horse he is. I think he’s ready, and he may very well be the longest shot on the board. #2 Successful Dan ran a spectacular race last time out in the Whitney, despite having flipped over on the way to the track. He should also get a nice pace setup.  #1 Ron The Greek may have been compromised by the pace of the Whitney, and with nobody pushing Cross Traffic. Gets JJ for this one, and will be running late.

Race 11

4 – Fizzano

8 – In My Eyes

3 – Kingofthebluegrass

9 – East of Danzig

Race 12

4 – Chapman

7 – Confrontation

6 – Taproot

3 – Much Stronger

Broke out of the slump in a big way yesterday. $41 winner ZinZay and $57 winner Ready Signal were my top selections and made up for what was a disappointing Travers. Divine Luck ran 2nd in the finale behinrear easy Signal as my 2nd choice giving me a juicy $400 exacta. Lets hope the good fortune continues as I will be up at the track Wednesday to stheme goodbyes for the year. Good luck and hit them hard.

Bluegrass Springs should be even better 2nd time routing for Linda Rice. He has trouble in last and still held well for third. Wild Billum goes second out for Chad brown and third off the layoff and gets Castellano. Rivandell ran well to finish 4×2 lengths in last effort and should be better 2nd off layoff for Charlie Lopresti who has gaudy numbers with this angle.

I have been wating for rapScallion to comeback. Graham Motion has had an excellent meet and this horse may just be a straight LawnMower. If the inner is playing to speed lookout. Indy Sea eligible to improve 2nd off long layoff and North Star Boy beat a solid horse in Adirondack Dancer in his last. Way get the same kind of setup here.  Pick of the Litter ran well on Keenland sythetic which is usually comparable to turf so I see no problem with the surface switch.

So Many Ways is 2 for 2 at the distance and was way to close to the hot pace in last. Jockey change to Napravnik who probably would’ve rode last time if not for being aboard Kuai Katie that day. Sweet Lulu ships from Cali with a purpose and tries to remain undefeated. Im Moms Favorite has been working lights out for Anthony Ditrow. you can toss the last race. this on e is ready to roll My happy Face cuts back in distance after finsihing a well beaten second behind top filly  Princess of Sylmar.

Give me the two biggest speeds and the two best closers to move on. Let Em Shine set crazy pace in Woody Stephens and only lost by a length. That race setup stretch runs from Forty tales adn Declans Warrior who had some trouble in that one. He may be overlooked a bit but the change to Johnny V and the added 1/2 F  from the last effort will help.

Very intriguing edition of the Travers. It is hard to ignore what Verrazano has been doing on the track lately . The same can be said for Palace Malice. The two likely favorites will aslo have to deal with a rejuvenated Orb who has been working lights out. When the derby trail started my thick headed self told everyone who would listen that Verrazano wouldnt get the 1 1/4 distance and Im going to stick with that.  Palice Malace was close to a strong pace set by Moreno in last and blew by him in the stretch.  Orb has already gotten the distance but did the wet track help that day? Goldophin stablemates Transparent and Romanish are the X factors. Both are well bred and both are still improving. They could get a piece of this at a price but it will be no easy task, especially when both are adding almost 10 lbs. . Will Take Charge ran well enough to get 2nd in the Jim Dandy after removing the blinkers.

I will use both horses with experience here. Financial Mogul too all the money last out and  chased runasay winner Big Sugar Soda.  i give a chance to A  Touch of Poetry who faded badly after being up on a hot pace . Chomsky is well bred Distorted Humor colt that goes first out for Henng Barn. Havana has been working really well for Todd Pletcher and will be below 2-1 by post. Kendalls Boy owns a ton of bullet works and Napravnik opts for this one over a Touch of Poetry

1 Havana.

Night Maneuver is in tip top form right now and will be tough to beat. Speedy NF’s Destiny gave Night Maneuver all he could handle when they last met. Thinking that there is enough pace in here for a closer to take this and Dehere of the Cat and Coaltown Legend will both be coming on late. CrackerJack Jones has been impressive in his short career and has shown an ability to rate. WritingontheWall will be gunning for the lead but Jacobson can not be ignored 1st off the claim.

Plenty of pace in here so a closer could  run them down even on the inner turf course. Bashful Bandit will be a big price goinf first out for Jeremiah Englehart and has races that could win this. Unbridled Logic is in good form and has 2 seconds in two turf races.  Yo Blue held on well against tougher in last after being cooked up front in a hot pace duel . Castellano is back aboard and he rated this one when he took the mount. and Pyro City chased Bill of Rights in last to be a clear cut 2nd.

Elusive Rumor has been facing much better competition but at a route distance. Can he win on the turn back? Barrel of Joy just missed to Karakorum Elektra last out. Third place finisher in that one La Bella Valeria will be totally overlooked on board and worth a stab at 20-1 as well. Jitney returns to the tturf I always thought  highly of this horse last year and he may be rounding into form . Subtle is the quickest of them all and Castellano will look to steal this up front  . I think I have to bet a Bustle/Subtle double just on a hunch play…

Judy the Beauty was runner up in Prioress last year I like the outside posts in 7F races and she should be in good stalking poposition .Bejerano and Baffert ship in Book Review and  at they wouldn’t be here I’f they didn’t think they could win. Dance to Bristol hasnt lost a race in quite some time but that last one against  Classic point was a battle and maybe took something out of her. Glorious View may have needed a race off the layoff and this one could still be improving for Bil Mott at a big price.

Linda Rice gets never o Time on turf  for the first time  as a member of her barn.  Should be on the lead with J. Ortiz. Sulleabhain will be an overlay at 15-1 ML and ran well two back to win while routing. Sams Buck cant be ignored for George Weaver . Native Wave has speed figures that will make him competitive if he brings his A game. One of the strangest run lines I have ever seen on Verne who won routing on turf and then gets changed to hurdle event after a year layoff. That experiment seemingly failed and now returns to flat surface.  Im not really how to treat this one.

Pletcher horse Super Sky is the only one with experience in here besides the 3 horse who did no running and took no money.  Taking the trainer angles and pedigree angles for my other three selections. Tapiteo is a daughter of Tapit for Rusty Anrold who rarely wins with first time starters.  Reign must be respected for Graham Motion who is decent with first timers snd has been rock solid at the meet. Sky Painter goes out for Kieran Mcaughlin who had a 1st time starter win yesterday.

Moonwalk 3rd off layoff since running in Breders Cup , stretches out to 1 1/8 here but does own a vctory at 1 1/16. Stalking from outside post should be ideal. Viva Rafaela may have needed a race last out. This one took a ton of money for Todd Pletcher and should improve2nd start in this country.

Hitting the early pick 4 for peanuts was better than losing the $80 I spent on it. Bozique being nosed at the wire hurt because that could’ve been a real nice score.  The turf course continues to puzzle me and  with the rail set so wide in preparation for the big weekend closers have been dominating..Look for things to change on Friday maybe and pay attention to how the two grass surfaces are playing. The back end of the card was not as kind to me as the front was. The late pick 4 paid $23,000 on a $.50 Cent wager. Would’ve been nice…..

Ten races slated for today including the Albany which features the Albany for NY Breds and Amberjack looks to continue to dominate this  division  after a great showing up at finger lakes in the New York Derby  and Escapefromreality appear to be his main threats. Good luck and hit them hard.

 Race 1

A 2YO race that Todd Pletcher doesn’t have a horse in?  Looking at works doesn’t really tell much here. I’m going to have to stick with the red hot George Weaver and spread behind him.

4 Court Dancer

6 Isabelle

7 Fee and Sugar

Race 2

Irad Ortiz opts for the Levine trainee Nothing But Air despite regularly riding TangleWood Tale and cruising  to a open length victory aboard her in last. Tanglewood Tale owns two victories over the Saratoga course and is in good form. Queen Mercury ships from Cali and switches to dirt for  the first time in a while. She will show speed from that outside post.

2 Nothing But Air

6 Tanglewood Tale

7 Queen Mercury

$.50 Cent Early Pick 4 ALL / ALL/ 1 / 2,6,7  $66  Play

Race 3

Saropia and ImanIndianOutlaw exit same race. Saropia finishing second and ImanIndianOutlaw  finishing 4 lengths behind in 5th but that effort came off the heels of a long layoff and Rudy Rodriguez has good numbers  second off these types of gaps in racing.  Dust em Mick gets back on turf after  the last got switched to dirt. regal Joanne is the x factor here with a class edge and turf pedigree . The problem is her only turf race was her first career start and it was not a good one.

5 Imanindianoutlaw

6 Regal Joanne

3 Dust Em Mick

Race 4

With Bernie the Jet stretching out and Elusive Son having some speed and the Cali shipper Miceli gunning for the lead this is a perfect setup for Winning Cause who will save ground and run them down late.

1 Winning Cause

6 One More Cat

3 Sayaad

$1 Pick 3 1,3,6 /2,7 / ALL $45 Play

Race 5

ItsaGoodTenDollars and Tuvia’s Force are well deserving favorites but I am also going to include longshot Cinnamon Beach who has been away since Aqueduct inner dirt but won at this 1 1/8 distance against a decent field in his last. He has a bullet work leading up to this and goes first time out for Danny Gargan.

2 ItsagoodtenDollars

7 Tuvias Force

6 Cinnamon Beach

Race 6

These maiden claiming races repeatedly produce huge prices  While I like the Anthony Dutrow half of the Dubb Entry there are too many question marks for me to pull the trigger on any of these  With Diamonds owns good numbers on paper and Lara has been improving at may find her niche at this level others such as Chessrate and Absolute Paradise could surprise at a big price in here .

1 Dubb  Entry

2 Chessrate

9 Lara

6 With Diamonds

3 Absolute Paradise

Race 7

Castellano takes Foggy Road over Cowboy prince after riding them both last time out. Cowboy prince does get Rosario however and probably will be alone on the lead unless someone else decides to change tactics. Apex chased a runaway winner in last .

7 Foggy Road

8 Cowboy prince

6 Apex

Race 8

Just have trainer angles to go by here and nothing really genius to report. keep an eye on AE list however as Reign or Super Sky getting in could be dangerous

6 Ruslana

3 Zindaya

1 Stay in Front

Race 9

Two horse race in my opinion.

3 Escape From Reality

4 AmberJack

Race 10

With two Michael Maker claims in here I am banking on one of them winning this race. From a barn known to improve horses first off the claim with great success. Behind that we have a myriad of horses dropping in class and stretching out to this 1 1/8 distance. The most notable being Rakete who drops in for a tag for the first time after running against much better in most of his previous efforts.

10 Hezro

7 Southern Match

6 Rakete

3 Fiddlers Chico

8 Cielo Soleggiato

2 Disaster Relief
